We had a potluck last night! Officially, it was to commemorate International Women’s Day, as well as to give the cooks a break, but unofficially it was just for fun. Some people made things that they had been craving since being in Peru, but for the most part our “dinner” was mostly “dessert”; life’s uncertain, right? It was all so good!
Taking over the kitchen.
Left to right: Amelia, Kaitlan, Laura (in the back),
Lindsay, Natalie (in the very front)
Laura making chocolate milkshakes!
Heather's banana pancakes
My Caprese salad
(all of that basil was 30 centimos, which is about 10 cents american!)
Natalie's mango mound
Lindsay's rice crispy treats
Marisol's cheese sticks
Kaitlan's omelettes (the tasted better than they look here...)
Amelia's Trifle
(Cake on bottom, Jello and fruit next, then pudding, and topped with whipped cream!)
The finished product.
Today Laura and I had our first foray into the public transportation system of Ayacucho. We took the bus home from Santa Elena, and I have to say that it was pretty exciting. The door was wide open the whole time, and the bus barely stopped to let people on and off. Standing in the doorway the whole time was a man who can only be described as "the hurrier", seeing as his only job was to yell at people to hurry up as they got on/off the bus; including old people and women with babies. Stressful!
We leave for Lima tonight, on the night bus 9 pm. I guess I'll be having yet another bus adventure today. Wish me luck!
